Eye Work (artist’s book) — completed May 2022 (expanded January 2024)

In its totality, Eye Work is a 27-page work that explores the intersection of medical technology and emotional experience. Crafted with medical-grade retinal scans, textiles, cellophane, photographs, braille, and other tangible materials, the book visually narrates the impact of Sledges father’s degenerative eye disease. Through both practical and emotional lenses, Eye Work captures the progression of the disease, reflecting on the complex relationship between vision, memory, and identity. The tactile materials invite the viewer to engage with the sensory experience of sight and loss, offering a poignant exploration of family, vulnerability, and the resilience of the human spirit.
